Rebecca and Esti were having coffee together in Chelsea Harbour when the idea of collaborating on a rug was born.
‘We have worked together many years and were always proud to have our rugs in Rebecca’s beautiful interior projects. There was no doubt that the collaboration would produce something stunning!’ says Esti. ‘When I saw the artwork, I knew it was not going to be easy but nevertheless not impossible. The end-product exceeded expectations.’
Esti’s experience in working with designer Pam Weinstock and Calligrapher Hassan Massoudy meant that she already knew how to communicate the very complicated use of colours to the weavers to create rugs loyal to the artworks.
Like in the SUNSET rug that took her 13 months to complete, she used many colours, 18 solid and many more mixtures of pastel and strong tones to be precise. The DELPHINE rug, however, was completed in a matter of 12 weeks, including sampling.
None of this would have been possible without the help of Topfloor’s skilful weavers.
‘I enjoy collaborating with other designers and artists. Even though there is more pressure from the responsibility towards the artist, it is a very enjoyable process. There is an exchange of creative energy and a real synergy in the finished product’.
