Original inspiration
The scene: a frost –dappled pathway meandering through the lush grounds of a grand house in the Scottish Borders. The air is still and chill and the sun is low in a pearl-coloured December sky. The pathway is lined by ancient trees and flowering bushes, some dating from Victorian times and earlier. The silence is complete save for the periodic click of Esti’s camera as she scans the wintry landscape.

‘Ecosse’ starts with the most natural of subjects – a cluster of wintry grasses still touched with some of the vibrant colours of Autumn. Frost twinkles and slips from some of the blades and stems as the sun lends its faint warmth. It is almost perfect in its detail and colouring that the photograph could become the weaver’s template.
However, with an artist’s hand, Esti tweaks and tunes so that the hues and flowing shapes of nature smoothly transfer to the medium that is the tufted carpet. The result: a vibrant pastoral design that can be ordered in its original ‘Scottish’ colours or which can be styled and re-coloured to add a natural note to any room setting.
