Esti was one of the pioneer rug designers in using lace-like ‘decoupage’ to add texture and interest to what had historically been a strictly 2 dimensional medium. ‘Ethereal’ was an early example and featured stylized floral cut outs randomly placed around the carpet’s edge. into the design adding even more depth to the rug’s appearance. With these two techniques – the decoupage and colour shading – it is now possible to create something truly bespoke and exactly fit for decorative purpose. Add on the option to have the rug tufted in any size and shape and the possibilities become almost endless.
’Emmenthal’ is a quirky and light-hearted take on a simple and very familiar household object. However, add in Esti’s creative eye and imagination and the weaver’s pitch perfect workmanship and you end up with an icon in the making that was named ‘Best of Year’ by INTERIOR DESIGN Magazine in 2010.
