The shiny purple green leaves with their scalloped edges struck just the right balance between symmetry and nature’s  irregularity. But rather than use the shapes, block print fashion across the entire face of the carpet, Esti chose to emphasise the pleasing three-dimensionality of the market stall display and also capture the slightly damp  conditions of when the

photograph was taken. Hence, the artichokes are picked out in silk to allow them to reflect  luminously and fade back into the muted jade green background. ‘Enginar’ is a good example of Esti’s fondness for natural shapes and colours and the homely simplicity of the design  belies the extreme precision with which it is executed.
